Tanel Veenre porcelain tableware series Sun King

The porcelain tableware product development process has lasted almost two years. This has meant entering the world to new materials and working with factories in two countries with a distinguished porcelain history, Portugal and China. In the end, we decided to produce the dishes in China because their quality met our expectations the most. These dishes are made of the highest quality thin bone china – high bone china. Therefore, there is no fear that the edges of the plates and cups will quickly become sloppy.

“I was inspired to create this series by the central games of Moroccan patterns. Around the centre of my universe – which is, of course, the winged seahorse – other small creatures revolve seashells, dragonflies and beetles. The result is mesmerizing and kaleidoscopic.”

The first echelon of this dish series consists of two conceptual parts – pastel and dark patterns. The crown of the dark is, of course, the black set. Among the pastels, there are several cool combos such as peach with moss green, light purple with ultramarine or mint with turquoise. In addition to black, the dark series also includes deep eggplant and night green.

“In my childhood home, there was festive tableware that was the holiest of holies. Taking it out of the cupboard was quite nerve-wracking – since only the children could get into the cupboard behind the sofa, it was our task to hand these dishes from there to my mother to cover the festive table. But for God’s sake, none of them decorated with poppy flowers were not supposed to get hurt on the way!”

“I love to cook for my friends and family, and the time spent at the dining table is the best part of life. And as my food muse, Hele-Mai Alamaa has taught – let your stomach be fresh and colourful. And let the life around it be like that too, bring brightness to every day.”

The opportunity to combine dishes with each other adds playfulness to the Sun King series. Every new piece brings out the beauty of others even more proudly. Therefore, they are perfect gifts to loved ones, one item at a time throughout the years, or to quickly acquire a few plates with seahorses at home as the family grows. This series is organic, shimmering and playful.

Hundreds of versions of the plates were born in the process.
