Our Muse – Spicy Gerli Kai

Gerli Kai’s cool beauty does not leave you cold. She has been roaming the world of fashion and design for years, both as a photographer and increasingly as a content creator. At the moment, Gerli Kai just landed from Paris Fashion Week, where she assisted photographers, photographed the catwalk and helped famous influencers create image content. We asked Gerli to open up about the essence of her world and sense of style.

Gerli, you have red hair and fair skin - does or how does it affect your style and colour choice on a daily basis? Do you have your own favourite brands or colours?

For now, I have put my red hair on pause and I am growing out my natural colour. Having red hair limited the colour options for the outfit, but it also helped me choose more of my own shades. I don’t have favourite brands, I combine clothes according to the time and mood in order to feel comfortable and confident. Turtleneck sweaters are a favourite in the winter, but I also like to express myself with, for example, some stylish outfits instead. My favourite colours are nude, electric blue, light blue, brighter green and purple. I am also a big lover of black and white.

Please describe the enchanting photoshoot with our silk and snowfields... Where and how did it happen?

Photographing the snow field was done in Pärnu with the help of my dear friend Kati-Liisi, luckily she immediately agreed with my idea. I love extreme ideas, this ice field and the colours of Veenre seemed like a perfect combination. Also, I don’t like the image to be plain, so I’m always looking for special solutions.

Describe to us your relationship with jewellery - are you an everyday jewellery wearer? Have you developed your favourites?

I’m not an everyday jewellery wearer, rather I tend to buy jewellery that matches as many different styles as possible. I like jewellery that I can wear both with a casual outfit and with a formal outfit. Yes, I also have jewellery for more special occasions, but with the fast pace of life, I prefer something that I can quickly match with an outfit. An excellent example is Tanel Veenre’s Earberries, which are suitable for any occasion, and the tiny detail gives a noticeable accent to both the outfit and the face. The thing about jewellery is that they have to speak to me. In this case, it doesn’t matter how small or extravagant the jewellery is. I’m not afraid of flashy jewellery.

How do you manage to look so beautiful, well-groomed and always radiant with two children and your various jobs? What are your beauty tips?

In addition to being a photographer, many other permanent jobs and projects have taken up more of my time, which has made time management even more critical. (Thank you very much!) With the fast pace of life, I constantly make conscious choices to reduce stress. If I have to, I’ll wear pants and a turtleneck for a week. The next moment, I’m in the mood to cheer myself up, and I combine playful lightness with something more stylish and special. My beauty tip is to have enough mix-and-match clothes in my closet that can be layered and spiced up with jewellery, belts, and shoes. By combining simplicity and details, you can always create an eye-catching look. Moms know that hair that hasn’t been washed for several days can be charmed with a ponytail and hairspray, just like a model who just walked down the street in fashion.

How do you maintain your self-confidence and femininity?

I believe that confidence is a “thing” that constantly grows with us. I often put myself in new situations that allow me to grow more and more in places where I need to be brave. When I was young, I was rather modest and timid until I realised that if I want to do something or be a part of something, I have to start organising things myself and invite others instead. When it comes to clothing, I’ve realised that the most important thing is to feel comfortable, that’s where confidence comes from. Comfortable doesn’t just have to mean something simple and ordinary. Comfortable is when I feel good in my own skin, whether it’s a prom dress, jeans or something crazy.
