The Most Beautiful Raincoats in the World

These capes turn a grey summer day into a little celebration. Tanel’s cape collection brings together Estonian folk heritage, contemporary design, and everyday practicality. The collection features eight playful and colourful capes in different shades. All patterns are inspired by Estonian folk art – six reinterpret traditional embroidery motifs, while two draw inspiration from the striped patterns of traditional folk skirts. The result is a unique collection where heritage meets modern design.

Mustrimaagia

At first glance, the patterns reveal familiar flowers and ornamental forms. On closer inspection, however, playful surprises begin to emerge. Hidden within the designs are frogs, Baltic herring (one of Tanel’s favourites!), ladybirds, and, of course, seahorses. The seahorses have even found their way into the striped patterns, where they seem to dance among the lines. All designs have been created directly within the garment pattern to minimise fabric waste, following an almost zero-waste approach. The fabrics are custom-printed exclusively for this collection.

Running Late for the Song Festival

Originally, the capes were planned to reach their wearers in time for the 2025 Song Festival. However, as a perfectionist, Tanel was not fully satisfied with the result, and the process took another year. The first batch of fabric did not meet expectations — the material was not sufficiently waterproof. The entire production run had to be reprinted, effectively restarting the process from scratch. Finding the right fastening also took time. After several rounds of testing, magnetic closures were chosen. The result is elegant and convenient — the cape can be quickly thrown over the shoulders and just as easily removed. These capes are designed specifically for the Estonian summer: overcast days, sudden rain showers, and the need for something lightweight yet reliable.

Also suitable for children

The capes are not overly long, which makes them particularly well suited for children. To be honest, they are not designed for adults to spend hours marching through heavy rain — they won’t keep your knees dry in a downpour. For children, however, the length is ideal, providing plenty of protection for playing outdoors in rainy weather, going for walks, or taking along to summer events.

Made in Estonia

Every detail has been carefully considered from a technical perspective as well. All seams are silicone-taped on the inside to ensure maximum water resistance and a longer lifespan. The capes are sewn in Estonia, in collaboration with Aikosewing. Local production makes it possible to maintain strict quality control while also supporting Estonia’s tradition of skilled craftsmanship.
