Evelin Võigemast has featured Tanel Veenre’s collection from the foundation of the brand. Evelin’s sparkling and positive attitude resonates with the brand’s dreamy look on life. To celebrate the friendship, we’ve made an interview with Evelin to get our followers an insight into our muse’s thoughts, hopes, and dreams.
We conducted a thorough survey among our patrons asking them who could be the muse figure for Tanel Veenre jewellery, and you and Mirtel Pohla were at the head of the list. You radiate intelligent, strong femininity. How consciously do you control your image?
I’m not engaged on a daily basis with image control. For the most part, I am like I am. And I contain both light and dark tones, the whole rainbow. But if I am given a public forum, I do sense my responsibility. I don’t want to fill our common space with foolish utterances. I think about what I say. I think about the consequences of what I say. I think about whether it’s better to leave something unsaid or to go ahead and not be silent. Actors are often given a chance to speak, so responsibility comes along with it.
You have been the muse for a number of Estonian designers’ brands. What have these collaborations given you?
Above all, the chance to see their world: how they work, what they consider important. I am actually interested in how the process works, from concept to buyer. And as a consumer, I help as much as my pocketbook allows. Incidentally, a major advantage when buying local design is the possibility of getting it fixed. I’ve asked for broken jewellery to be fixed. I have exchanged the handle of a leather bag that was worn out over time. You cherish and wear it with love. For years.
Being in movies, on the theatre stage, the photo studio…What do they have in common and what differentiates them?
They have in common the possibility of hiding yourself behind a protective role. Working on the theatre stage means constantly honing your handicraft skills. The film requires more thorough independent preparations and then, being completely present. And being in front of the photographer’s lens requires the most courage.
How sensitive are you about the passing years? Where do you see yourself 30 years from now?
I want to say: not at all. But I would be lying. If the first digit of my age changes, like it did this spring for me, three became a four, that takes some getting used to. But it came fast. What matters, in the end, is what I think and how I live. Getting older doesn’t automatically mean getting smarter, that comes with experience. In my dreams, I see myself in 30 years as being the same as I am today. With more wrinkles, wiser and more experienced. Hopefully still working, taking an interest in the world and enjoying life.
If you had a coat of arms, what motto would it have on it?
Hmm, I would have a number of possible options for that motto. But I would stick with “You have to live with an open heart!” So that love would find a way in, pass through and come out. So pain could enter, and pain could also find a way out.
What are you dreaming about now?
I dream of the ability to always be present. Then I also dream of the people around us having more empathy. I dream of being able to raise my children to be caring and responsible adults. Although I believe that every new generation is smarter than the one before it and the world belongs to the young. And I dream that as humankind, we are able to be stewards of the world and we have something to leave the next generations.
