The fashion collection “Unimoon” combines designer Tanel Veenre’s fascination with Estonian folk embroidery with his personal memories of Estonia. As with many of Tanel’s collections, the roots of “Unimoon” reach back to childhood — to song and dance festivals, whether held in Tallinn or Intsikurmu. These moments nurtured the young artist’s love for colors and patterns.
The collection received a fresh boost in midwinter when Tanel explored the collections of the Estonian National Museum. At home, playing with materials on the computer, traditional embroidery began to merge with his personal motifs: little owls landing in lilac bushes to nibble seeds on crisp winter days; counting the spots on ladybugs remembered from childhood; his mother’s favorite flowers — bleeding hearts and forget-me-nots; picking wild strawberries despite the mosquitoes. In addition, there are white clear flowers and crowned frogs, swifts and snails, beetles and bees, mushrooms and gnats… All these tiny symbols together create a sense of home. And of course — the spirit animal: the crowned seahorse, floating in a dreamlike universe.
